Job Description:

The Department of Athletics and Recreation is home to numerous staff members dedicated to providing students with meaningful experiences both on and off the playing fields. We offer 19 NCAA Division III competitive teams as part of the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct all administrative, operation and business functions for the Athletic department;
  • Hire, supervise, evaluate and mentor department personnel ensuring their commitment to the university's mission;
  • Develop and manage the department budget ensuring full-compliance with all Federal, State and SUNY regulations;
  • Ensure full compliance with all NCAA, SUNYAC, SUNY and campus rules and regulations;
  • Act as a liaison between the department and the College Foundation's fundraising efforts;
  • Collaborate with institutional and community colleagues to support university wide priorities including academic success, retention, prevention of alcohol/drug use and sexual violence, and bystander intervention.
  • Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies. 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Five years or more years demonstrated progressive experience in NCAA or professional athletics administration including budget management, staff supervision and development, facility management, and fund-raising. 
  • Ability to work with a diverse constituency including students, staff, alumni and community.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and familiarity with NCAA compliance procedures including a firm understanding of Division III student athlete philosophy.
  • Demonstrated successful experience with external fundraising, marketing, and promotion.
  • Demonstrated a record of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with the local community and alumni.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership style and record of excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated record of selecting and mentoring successful coaches and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with other institutional departments, particularly Admissions, Residence Life and Facilities Management. 
  • Familiarity with Title IX.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, term appointed, UUP-represented (Appendix B, SL5) position beginning January 2018.
