JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF PSYCHOLOGY, CALIFORNIA NORTHSTATE UNIVERSITY, ELK GROVE, CA

 

SUPERVISOR:             President/CEO of California Northstate University

 

EFFORT:                      1.0 FTE, Full Time, Exempt

 

 

 

California Northstate University is dedicated to educating, developing, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals. After launching and accrediting the College of Pharmacy, College of Medicine, and the College of Health Sciences CNU now is seeking a Dean that can successfully develop, inaugurate, and manage the new College of Psychology.

 

 

 

This program will provide students with scientifically proven interventions and practical first hand field experience culminating in a doctorate of clinical psychology (Psy.D.). Graduates will have the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to take the next steps in becoming a practicing, licensed psychologist.

 

 

 

It will be the Dean’s responsibility to create this program within the established tenants of the University. Under the general guidance of the President, the Dean must write the policies and procedures governing the program, create a comprehensive budget, and hire both faculty and support staff.  They are also responsible for the overall curriculum, admission criteria, and degree requirements of the College.

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Dean will be responsible for the overall:

 

1.   Leadership and direction for the program

 

2.   Goals and needs of the College

 

3.   Hiring and management of faculty and support staff

 

4.   Development of the philosophy and learning outcomes of the program 

 

5.   Application of University policies and procedures

 

6.   Course schedules and conflicts

 

7.   Quality of the program and its outcomes

 

8.   Management of student enrollment

 

9.   Training and evaluation of faculty and support staff

 

10. Preparation of clear and concise administrative and financial reports

 

 

11. Adherence to federal, state, and professional laws and codes of ethics 

 

12. Relationships of outside entities with the College, including professional organizations

 

and training sites

 

13. Development and execution of a comprehensive plan for both WASC and APA

 

accreditation

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Must have:

 

1.   A Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA accredited program

 

2.   Completed an APA internship

 

3.   A license to practice psychology in the state of California

 

4.   A minimum of 5 years management experience with 3 at the executive level

 

5.   Experience developing large, full scale programs

 

6.   Experience managing a staff, both professional and ancillary

 

7.   Experience submitting and managing detailed budgets

 

8.   A proven track record of writing and approving policies and procedures

 

9.   Experience evaluating program and employee effectiveness

 

10. Experience hiring, retaining, and disciplining staff

 

11. Knowledge of accrediting standards, including WASC and APA

 

12. Comprehensive knowledge of the discipline of psychology Preferred:

 

1.   Additional graduate degree in education (MA) or business (MBA)

 

2.   Experience working on teams with a variety of healthcare professionals 

 

3.   Knowledge of local training opportunities

 

4.   Prior teaching experience at various academic levels

 

5.   The ability to analyze complex problems and provide solutions

 

6.   Excellent leadership skills

 

7.   The ability to speak and write clearly and concisely

 

8.   Establishment of positive and harmonious relationships with others

 

9.   Proven excellence in public speaking

 

10. Previous experience representing a large organization to the public

 

11. In-depth prior experience with both human and public relations
