The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Controller in the Business & Financial Affairs division.  This position is responsible for oversight, coordination, development, implementation and administration of fiscal policies and procedures and supervision of daily operations of the University’s Business Office. The Controller directs the activities of the areas of Financial Reporting, Accounting Services, Grants and Contracts Accounting, Payroll Office, Purchasing, Student Accounts Office (Bursar), Cashier Office, Accounts Payable, Loan Collections and Motor Pool. 

Essential job duties include: Directs and supervises activities of the Student Accounts Office (Bursar), Financial Reporting, Accounting Services, Grants Accounting, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and the Payroll Office; Oversees and monitors the University’s financial condition and reporting requirements, including but not limited to, annual financial reports and other recurring and special reporting as needed to ensure that financial information is recorded and reported according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Government Accounting Standards Board Pronouncements, Financial Accounting Standards Board, Accounting Standards Codification, state and federal regulations such as Cost Accounting Standards and OMB Circular A-21, Cost Principles for Educational Institutions;  Oversees all financial and other audits for the University, including negotiation of findings with auditors and development of management responses to findings; Assists with the preparation and administration of the University budget; Assist with Monitoring adherence to University budgets by cost centers and ensures proper use of University funds; Assist with developing policies and procedures for the business/financial operations of the University; Assist with the financial reporting requirements of the University;
Establishes and applies a system of internal controls for compliance with business practices and regulatory requirements; Provides guidance to University administration and cost center heads on University fiscal policies;
Oversees design and training for new systems implemented within the Controller’s areas of responsibility; Oversees administration of the Finance, Payroll and Accounts Receivable portions of the Banner software system. This includes establishment and application of policies and procedures, access to these Banner areas and associated security coordination; Establishes and reports annual strategic plan and budget for the areas within the Controller’s responsibility; Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required, Master’s preferred; Over five years of related experience is required, preferably in public higher education; Experience with Banner administrative software desirable; CPA preferred.
