As stated by Bob Rutland, “The purpose of the Institute for Ethics is to encourage discussion on campus, in business and in the community about how ethical decision-making can be the basis of both personal and professional success.” Reporting to the Associate Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Director of the Rutland Institute for Ethics is responsible for the development and support of the programming of the Institute. Supported by an Assistant Director and additional administrative support, as well as an active Advisory Board of community leaders, the Director will have the resources needed to develop academic programming related to ethics across the curriculum, that may also be integrated into general education, while also positioning the Institute to support the ethical development of leaders in the community and in business. The director will be responsible for managing the operations of the Institute, which include personnel and budget management, program development, oversight and assessment, outreach and development, as well as aligning the work of the Institute with the mission and goals of the University, as outlined in the ClemsonForward Strategic plan ( ).


The successful candidate must possess a Master’s degree or relevant experience, and several years of experience in an academic setting, working with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and members of community. An ability to create collaborative initiatives and provide detailed assessments is a major plus.
