The Nicholas School Curriculum Specialist will provide analysis of instructional design and curriculum review for Nicholas School's professional master's programs. He/she also will support faculty professional pedagogy and curriculum review. Under the direction of the Director of Professional Studies (DPS), he/she will collaborate with Program Chairs (PCs), other faculty and staff to support the assessment and improvement of teaching and learning.

Job Duties:
Conduct educational research, survey other schools and the literature to collect data and generate reports for the director of professional studies and faculty to consider.

Investigate, assess, and consult with faculty and administration on courses, programs, degrees and instructional approaches based on data, national trends, local needs, and accreditation requirements.

Provide assistance and support for the development of curriculum, including alternative delivery curricula (i.e., online, applied learning, prior learning assessment, competency-based education, etc.), working with all stakeholders (program directors, faculty, other administrators the Nicholas School)

Assist Director of Professional Studies (DPS) and Program Chairs (PC) in ensuring appropriate alignment of curriculum at the department, school and university levels.

Work with DPS and PCs to establish regular, meaningful assessment of the curriculum aligned with accreditation standards and best practice.

Develop and use methods, procedures and systems to support learning initiatives and records maintenance; evaluate and measure the effectiveness programs.

Provide consultation and collaborative support to program directors and others to evaluate and review curriculum additions and modifications.

Evaluate and communicate impact of curriculum or competency changes on operations or resources, facilitating resolution when necessary.

Establish evidence within the school for the needs of diverse learners and promote best practices for inclusive excellence in the classroom and in the curriculum.

Identify resource needs and allocations, including helping to prepare statements of financial impact of proposed actions and initiatives.

Ensure accuracy, clarity and timeliness of program and curriculum information (including competency-linked learning outcomes and assessments) in online and print publications, including departmental handbooks and School's website.

Under the direction of the DPS, collaborate with all key stakeholders to help communicate a shared vision and plan for the Nicholas School curriculum consistent with university and accreditation requirements.

Interpret and apply teaching and learning-related laws, regulations and policies/procedures from the university and other overseeing agencies, working collaboratively within the School and across the university to identify and deliver workable solutions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Preferred Requirements:
Master's degree in Curriculum & Instructional Design, Adult Education, Higher Education, or related field.

  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Experience with data collection and report generation
  • Knowledge of professional degree program delivery
  • Knowledge of Environmental Sciences or related curriculum
