Research Scientist


Job Description Summary:

The Research Scientist supports the implementation of the Global Women’s Institute’s robust portfolio of interdisciplinary research by leading quantitative and qualitative research analysis, developing and/or modifying techniques/protocols and training materials, contributing to/developing evaluation designs, conducting field research and carrying out studies in various locations around the world, preparing written reports, peer-reviewed articles and other products to disseminate research findings, and presenting research findings/participating in meetings on behalf of GWI.

Independently conducts research on a variety of projects related to violence against women and girls (VAWG) and gender equality in diverse settings. Develops projects related to prevention and response to VAWG, gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly in conflict and humanitarian settings. May organize and attend meetings and conferences to present findings.

Works with and builds/maintains relationships with a wide range of local and international partners.

Manages research projects, including timelines for deliverables, organizing meetings, facilitating communication among partners, and contributing to progress reports to funders.

Teaches classes on-line or in-person, as needed, and works with undergraduate and graduate practicum or intern students.

Provides indirect functional and administrative supervision over supporting research staff and transfers technical expertise and knowledge.

Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a master’s degree/PhD and at least 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area, to include at least 2 years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Ms/PhD in public health, social science, or other related field with 5+ years’ of relevant experience to include 2+ years of research and/or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed. Experience to include planning, conducting and reporting as primary responsibility preferred.

Other Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of and experience in using quantitative and qualitative research methods in the field.
Topical expertise in violence against women & girls, and gender equality.
Experience in monitoring & evaluation.
Management and administrative skills and experience.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong writing and communication skills.
Experience as a PI strongly preferred.
