Degree and Area of Specialization:
Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related field. Consideration will be given to candidates with a bachelor's degree in a biological science field with relevant work experience.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Two or more years of database-driven web application is required (seven years experience is required for appointment at Senior level).
-Ability to write well-documented, object-oriented, and modular Java Code for the back end
-Experience working with SQL
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills are extremely important; must be capable of communicating effectively with a variety of personnel (e.g. biologists, veterinarians, computer programmers, and support staff)
-Experience writing automated software tests for both end-to-end and unit testing; experience with Selenium
-Experience with PostgreSQL
-Experience using Subversion and Git to manage source code; knowledge of GitHub
-Prior supervisory experience (for appointment at Senior level)
-Prior work experience in a research environment highly desirable
A developer position is available in the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC), Electronic Health Record (EHR) Services Unit. The EHR Services Unit is responsible for the ongoing development, support and maintenance of the WNPRC's EHR application. EHR is a web application built as custom Java modules for LabKey (https://www.labkey.org), using PostgreSQL for data persistence. EHR houses a wide array of information such as animal records, research data, research protocol information, and employee training records. EHR is utilized by faculty, staff and researchers both internally and externally of the University of Wisconsin-Madison to gather data for research and animal health purposes. Additionally, EHR is utilized by WNPRC animal care staff to assist in the day-to-day care of the animals and operation of WNPRC.
The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) is one of seven federally supported National Primate Research Centers and the only one in the Midwest. The WNPRC's mission is to increase the understanding of basic primate biology and to improve human health and quality of life through research. To accomplish this, the WNPRC helps discover treatments, preventions and cures for human disease; generates new knowledge of primate biology, from the molecular and whole animal levels to the understanding of primate ecosystems; facilitates research progress by providing expertise, resources and training to scientists worldwide; and collects primate information and disseminates to the research community and to the public. Based in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education (OVCRGE) of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), the WNPRC has strong, long-established research and teaching links to the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH), the College of Letters and Science (L&S), the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM).
The minimum salary for the Information Processing Consultant will be $60,000. The minimun salary for the Senior Information Processing Consultant wil be $70,000. Beginning salary will be determined based on qualifications and prior work experience. There are two positions available.
