The Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to map neuronal activation and seizure spread in animal models of status epilepticus and acquired epilepsy using a combination of genetically engineered mice, adenoassociated virus-mediated gene delivery, in vivo imaging techniques including 2-photon microscopy and photo-acoustic microscopy in the laboratory of Dr. Jaideep Kapur. The laboratory is a part of group investigating mechanisms and treatment of seizures, status epilepticus and catamenial epilepsy. Education and training in developing novel techniques and preparing grants and presentations at scientific meetings will be available through mentoring and active collaboration with other researchers.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in a neuroscience-related discipline by the start date and a record of productivity. Previous experience in neuroscience, immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, and image analysis programs is preferred.
