Program Director, English as a Second Language (ESL)

Job Summary:
Develops, coordinates, and supervises strategic development and operation of the College’s ESL program.

Essential Functions:
1. Designs, develops, and implements the College’s ESL program and curriculum.
2. Oversees ESL testing, evaluation, advising, and placement activities.
3. Recruits, trains, and manages qualified part-time instructors.
4. Effectively integrates the use of instructional technology into the ESL program.
5. Oversees program evaluation activities intended to promote continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
6. Cultivates and maintains strategic internal and external partnerships to plan and execute programming initiatives.
7. Manages the annual budget for the program; develops grant proposals and other initiatives for program funding.
8. Remains current on ESL trends and teaching methodologies.
9. Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings and functions.
10. Serves on committees as assigned.
11. Maintains the highest ethical standards in relationships with constituencies, research activities, and business dealings with and on behalf of the College, per College policy.
12. May instruct ESL courses on an as needed basis.
13. Other duties as assigned.

Under the limited supervision of the Dean, Arts & Sciences, the Director, ESL is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the College’s ESL program. Works collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to promote and achieve student success.

Job Specifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or in a related discipline (such as English, Rhetoric, or Composition) with demonstrated experience working with ESL populations required. Five or more years of academic management of an accredited ESL program or similar management experience required. This is a 12-month contract and may include some instruction.

OTHER HIGHLY DESIRED QUALITIES: Teaching experience with a broad array of student populations and experience in Developmental English and Reading preferred. Curriculum development and program oversight experience highly desired. Commitment to the value of diversity and the free and open exchange of ideas; technically competent particularly in the area of instructional technology; ability to design and implement effective assessment strategies for measuring student learning; knowledgeable and committed to the mission and purposes of community colleges.

Grade: 10
Salary Range: Min. $50,289
