The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Illinois) and Carle Health System (Carle) have embarked on an exciting endeavor by creating the Carle Illinois College of Medicine - the nation's first engineering-based college of medicine. The curriculum of the Carle Illinois College of Medicine includes elements from three domains: biomedical sciences, engineering, and clinical experience. Delivery of the curriculum engages principles of case-driven, problem-based, active learning, with certain common threads throughout the pre-clerkship and clerkship periods. The Carle Illinois College of Medicine seeks up to two individuals to serve in highly dynamic Director-level positions that will lead and coordinate critical projects within the college. This is an open-rank search, where rank will be defined based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
The Director will provide leadership for critical projects including accreditation, compliance, and strategic projects within the college. This is an exceptional opportunity for highly motivated candidates to join an enthusiastically engaged, multi-disciplinary group of academic scholars, health care professionals, and specialists in medical education at the intersection of engineering, biological, and clinical sciences. This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The start date will be as soon as possible after the close of the search. Responsibilities include:In collaboration with the Dean, provide leadership to the college in support of short and long-term critical projects. Identify, develop and implement comprehensive project plans to support the compliance, operational, and strategic objectives of the college. Ensure progress and success toward achieving and maintaining LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) accreditation, other compliance objectives, and deliverables as determined by the Dean. Partner with internal and external units, committees, project teams and other stakeholders to create and manage work plans, reports, metrics, and supporting documents to fulfill compliance requirements and project objectives. Develop and lead project teams to effectively execute project deliverables within schedule. Create and support systems of accountability, including oversight of cross-functional work groups to provide a collaborative, participative, and transparent structure for project initiatives. Communicate with all appropriate parties and serve as a liaison for constituents to ensure that project objectives, scope, roles, and expected deliverables of each project phase are clearly defined and implemented. Prepare and present regular project progress reports to the Dean, college leadership and stakeholders. Serve as an effective agent of continuous progress towards compliance standards and project objectives, using project management and interpersonal skills to gain consensus and maintain momentum towards defined objectives. Sustain an environment that fosters teamwork, diversity, excellence and results. Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion and champion positive inter-professional relationships bridging the college's private/public organization and missions. Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree. A minimum 2 years of experience for an Assistant; a minimum 3 years of experience for an Associate; and a minimum of 5 years of experience for a Director, in project management, strategic planning, and/or change management. Experience will be considered within the fuller context of a candidate's qualifications including education, skills, and training. Candidates with exceptional skills or qualifications but with experience in areas other than project management may be considered if these qualifications are comparable to and otherwise fulfill the minimum experience requirement. Evidence of excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to cultivate relationships to think creatively and solve problems. Evidence of exceptional project management, time management, organizational, and analytical skills. A strong work ethic, an approachable leadership style, and a consistent focus on the college's immediate and strategic goals. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Must be willing to learn and collaborate in all aspects of the college's strategic approach to curriculum, diversity, and inclusion. Must be willing to learn and respect University policies, relevant Liaison Committee on Medical Education standards, and Carle policies related to physicians serving as educators and course delivery. Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree. Previous experience in healthcare education or higher education or a hospital setting. Experience in academic and/or administration including a strong understanding of university organization and shared governance structures. Excellent team building skills as well as the ability to work cooperatively with all constituencies in a unique environment of engineering-based medical education in the context of the Carle and Illinois private/public relationship.
