Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the group of Professor T. Brent Gunnoe. The field of study will be development of catalysts for the activation and oxidation of hydrocarbons with a focus on light alkanes. One research project will be to design new catalyst materials for direct methane fuel cells. The projects are highly collaborative with materials science and chemical engineering groups, including collaborations within the MAXNET Energy consortium.

This is a one-year appointment; however appointments may be renewed for an additional two, one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance. The completion of a Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field is required by the starting date of the appointment. Candidates are required to have experience in organometallic chemistry, homogeneous catalysis, and/or synthetic inorganic chemistry. Knowledge and proficiency in mechanistic studies as well as experience with C-H activation are preferred. The project requires strong organizational, communication and leadership skills as collaboration with groups outside the University of Virginia is an integral part of the projects. Thus, candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills. Candidates are also expected to play a leadership role in the laboratory as a mentor for both graduate and undergraduate students.
