About The Unit: In the Biological Sciences Division, Department of Medicine, Section of Dermatology. The laboratory focuses on melanocyte development and melanoma using a molecular biology approach.

Unit Job Summary: The Research Professional will study the mechanisms of cancer initiation and progression and to develop targeted chemopreventive and therapeutic strategies. Understand molecular mechanisms including autophagy and epigenetics involved in carcinogenesis in cells and animal models. Essential Functions: 15% - Direct research project that focuses on the mechanisms of skin carcinogenesis by environmental exposure and chemoprevention. 60% - Perform complex research projects in the area of cellular biology, molecular biology, chemical biology and signal transduction. 10% - Coordinate work with other scientists in the laboratory, collaborate effectively on joint research projects, and take part in lab management. 10% - Recognize abnormal results and trouble shoot conditions or procedures to correct problems. Adapt existing procedures to current work needs and make significant contributions to methodology. Summarize results and assist in interpreting experimental findings. 5% - Assist in preparing manuscripts and presentations at meetings.

Unit Education: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the biological sciences required.

Unit Experience: Two years of research experience preferred. Experience with mammalian cell culture, microscopy, immunoassays, molecular biology and animal models is desirable. Highly motivated individuals with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a research team are encouraged to apply.
