Job Summary

The mission of the Urban Underserved Track is: to train, support and encourage health professional students who are passionate about caring for diverse, urban, underserved populations throughout their careers. This multidisciplinary program includes medical, nurse practitioner and physician assistant students.

Specific aims of the track include:

  1. To inspire a continued commitment to advocating for the urban underserved through meaningful community engagement and service
  2. To educate students about resources and skills that will empower them to be excellent providers for underserved populations
  3. To create a community of collaboration and support among students with a passion for the care of the urban underserved
  4. To cultivate a diverse community within the Anschutz Medical Campus

The ideal person for this position is passionate about social justice, community engagement, and education. As a member of the Urban Underserved Track (UUT) team, this position would be responsible for providing program and administrative support services including: program design, development, evaluation, coordination and implementation. The position will support the Director of the Urban Underserved Track by providing administrative, organizational, and logistical support in coordinating various projects related to the track. The position includes substantial interaction with students enrolled in the track. It also requires an individual with a strong interest in working within the community setting, with community based organizations and underserved populations such as the homeless, LGBTQ, immigrants or refugees. The position may also assist activities of the AHEC Program Office which works to build state-wide network capacity and strengthen academic-community linkages in four core mission areas: health careers and workforce diversity; health professions student education; health professions continuing education; and public health and community education.

Examples of Work Performed

Coordinate the Urban Underserved Track Electives for Phases 1-4 including developing and disseminating schedules, distributing course information to students, organizing workshops, working with faculty and the Registrar's Office regarding grades. Assists with and coordinate the recruitment and application process for medical, physician assistant, and nurse practitioner students. Determine the best and most efficient way to disseminate information to students in the track. Handle all complaints and grievances from students and faculty and implements solutions in conjunction with the Director. Work with the Director and track members to engage with community based organizations in developing and sustaining service learning programs. Develop relationships with community based organizations and organize structured, collaborative programs for students which would positively impact the individuals being served. On occasion this may require being present beyond business hours and include weekends. Determine the logistical support necessary for outreach events. Assist the Director in all aspects of managing funding for the UUT. This includes assisting in: managing the budget as well as in applying for new funding. In addition, support evaluation and data collection as well as assist in completing required reports (to funders or schools).

Salary and Benefits

The hiring salary for this position has been established at $40,608 to $43,000 and is negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of general clerical experience. One year of this experience must have included working with community based organizations which serve underserved populations.
  • Substitution: College or university course work appropriate to the work assignment may substitute on a year for year basis for the experience, but not for the specific experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a higher education and/or educational healthcare environment.
  • Experience organizing, developing, and managing student programs and/or educational tracks.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
