Clinical Psychology or Related Mental Health Research Associate Position

The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the Institute of Behavioral Sciences, University of Colorado Boulder offers a full-time Research Associate position in clinical psychology or related mental health field. This is a one-year position, with the option of extending to a 2-year position (pending funding and mutual interest between the program and the RA). Within the CSPV Center, the Let's Connect team consists of 4 licensed psychologists and one Licensed Clinical Social Worker working collaboratively with other social scientists at CSPV. Our team is focused on the dissemination of trauma-informed, evidenced-based family interventions and the ongoing evaluation of the Let's Connect program as a preventive intervention program for children, youth and families.

Let's Connect was developed by the University of Colorado team and is currently undergoing multiple evaluations. Let's Connect is grounded in developmental and clinical research that demonstrates that adult response to child emotion is central in fostering children's emotion regulation, emotional security, and related mental health outcomes. It is considered a promising practice by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Let's Connect has been integrated with trauma-focused treatment (TF-CBT) to enhance outcomes for families experiencing trauma or can be delivered as a stand-alone (individual or group) prevention model. Let's Connect strategies have also been adapted for use in schools and embedded as part of social-emotional learning programming and to create trauma-sensitive school environments.

General Application Requirements
All applicants must hold a doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or school psychology at the start of their appointment. Other specific requirements are provided below.
Review of applications will be ongoing, with a deadline for applications by July 15, 2017. Invitations for interviews will be made on an ongoing basis. Offers will be extended pending final budgetary approval. Anticipated start date is August 1, 2017 but can be flexible.
General Opportunities
All research assistants within the Center have access to a multitude of career development opportunities through the network of collaborators within IBS and across the CU system including a rich range of didactic offerings. The position will include opportunities to offer community-based trainings in the Let's Connect approach to parents, school professionals and community partners as well as mentoring of interns and volunteers. We can provide clinical supervision to the RA and oversee direct delivery of service to children, youth and families in order to satisfy requirements for state licensure in clinical, counseling, or school psychology.
Start Date and Benefits
Start date for the position is targeted to be early August. Salary is $47,500 per year. Benefits are provided according to policies at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Position Description

Once the fellow is trained in Let's Connect (LC), their effort will be devoted to serving as a Let's Connect Coach for a community-based research project with the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) entitled Thriving Schools: Social/Emotional Wellness & Behavioral Health funded by Kaiser Permanente. The purpose of this grant is to support teachers and staff to promote social/emotional wellness and address behavioral health within school districts to improve learning outcomes for every student. The RA will serve as the primary LC coach that will serve elementary, middle, and high schools in Boulder and Nederland, Colorado. The RA will also have other opportunities to provide training and implementation support to service providers including mental health professionals, teachers and agencies who have contracted with us to use the LC program in their service delivery settings. These settings include schools and other agencies whose mission is to provide evidence-based and trauma-informed prevention for children and families. Given our commitment to research, this position will also involve efforts to collect data regarding the implementation fidelity of the LC program as well as collaboration regarding the publication of these results. Mentorship in grant writing, manuscript preparation, and data analysis will be provided. The Research Associate will participate in ongoing research activities and may also develop his/her own research project(s).

As a part of this Research Associate position, there will also be opportunities to be trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and work toward TF-CBT certification. The Research Associate will also receive exposure to other evidence based, trauma-focused treatments such as Alternatives for Families Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT).
The overall goal is to provide expertise working as clinical researcher capable of applying prevention efforts to address the needs of children, youth and families across existing settings of care. Other research and clinical duties may focus on collaborative research, consultation with existing partners, and presentation of findings at research conference.

Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have training and experience conducting research with children, youth and families, as well as clinical experience with these groups in diverse settings including schools. Ideally, the candidate has a demonstrated interest in social and emotional learning programs, prevention science and the application of evidence-based practices with diverse and underserved populations.
