This position will install, maintain, repair, and modify structural and finished concrete, brick, block, tile, stone, caulking, and plaster including complex repairs. Lay, repair, and set brick, block, quarry tile, ceramic tile, limestone, marble, granite, and glazed material. Develop, fabricate, and implement innovate compositions, methods, materials, and equipment to meet specialized needs. Replace or repair mortar and expansion joints. Perform interior and exterior restoration of all masonry installations. Select, mix, and use appropriate aggregates, cements, limes, retarders, accelerators, bonding agents, and other additives. Select and install appropriate reinforcement materials. Adapt commercially available materials to meet specialized needs. Caulk all masonry and metal installations. Repair or replace concrete, terrazzo, quarry tile, wall tile, ceramic floor and specialty floors. Check alignment of installation or repair work. Cure, mix, pour, and trowel, cement, mortar, or plaster. Fabricate and install forms for poured-in-place materials. Clean marble and stone surfaces, using chemicals and abrasives. Cut openings into various types of masonry. Operate sand blasting equipment to smooth or prepare masonry, metal, or similar surfaces. Erect and work from ladders, scaffolding, boom trucks, and similar devices. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches and job specifications. Requisition equipment, materials, and parts. Estimate time and materials to be used on the job. Stock, maintain, and may operate a University service vehicle.

Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience. Five years experience in the trade; or successful completion of an applicable trade specific Trades Helper program or completion of an approved apprenticeship program; and demonstrated ability to independently perform the duties and responsibilities of the classification. Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of the trade. Expert knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state, and federal). Possession of a valid State of Michigan vehicle operator's license. Must furnish own hand tools. Frequent lifting over 75 pounds.Desired Qualifications
Experience of masonry restoration; experience with estimating materials and time needed for jobs; experience with coatings and sealers; ability to complete overhead and vertical wall patching; experience with injection work; experience with masonry through wall flashing systems; experience with masonry related non-masonry issues; experience with re-anchoring existing brick veneer masonry; ability to evaluate and make recommendations for exterior masonry issues; experiences with cleaning masonry walls.
