Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature.

General Function:

Student Development adjunct counselors are primarily responsible for the provision of academic, career and personal counseling services to the Harper College student.  He/she is a primary resource/referral agent with regard to Harper College curriculum, transfer articulation agreements, and career information.

Student Development adjunct counselors are expert in counseling.  They are concerned with the student's emotional and intellectual adjustment to Harper College and facilitate the successful setting and accomplishing of life goals.

Duties of Position

Provides educational planning to current and prospective students.

Provides personal and career counseling to Harper students.

Interprets career, interest, skill, academic and personality assessments to students and utilizes results as appropriate in counseling settings.

Serves as resource on college transfer information.

Provides appropriate referral within Harper College and/or to community agencies when appropriate.

Maintains appropriate records.

Functions within guidelines of Student Development philosophy and toward the fulfillment of annual and long-term goals.

Provides crisis counseling and brief psychotherapy as needed.

Attends meetings as needed.

Maintains expertise in professional field of counseling and student development.

Teaches Student Development courses as needed (PSY107, PSY108, FYE101, CDV110 and DIV101).

Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

Master's degree in counseling, college student personnel or related field is required.  Supervised counseling practicum/internship is required.

Experience Requirements

 Experience with academic advising and/or counseling in a higher education setting preferred.
