Job Description Summary:

The Sumner M. Redstone Global Center for Prevention and Wellness implements and evaluates strategies to improve health and to measure outcomes globally, nationally and in the Washington, DC community. The Center focuses on topics which includes obesity, nutrition and physical activity.

The Sumner M. Redstone Global Center is seeking a Biostatistician to support nutrition and obesity focused research. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team and develop expertise in nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease epidemiology. The Biostatistician will develop data analysis plans, analyze data, prepare manuscripts, and develop grant proposals for external funding.

The statistician will have a high level of autonomy and will report to the Center’s Director, Dr. Bill Dietz. The initial appointment is for two years. The start date is flexible.

Responsibilities include:
• Analysis of large multilevel databases using statistical software
• Execution of latent variable models, multilevel regression analysis, and other more sophisticated analyses.
• Coding variables and building regression models.
• Constructing multilayer datasets from multiple large datasets, data cleaning, quality checks, formatting and organizing analytic files.
• Manage the interpretation of analyses, publication of results, and preparation of grants.
• Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

MS or MPH in Statistics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related field, plus plus 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 + years of experience with statistical programming
• Strong knowledge of SAS and R
• Proficiency in statistical analysis methods related to health research
• Experience in assisting with manuscript preparation and/or grant applications
• Prior experience in nutrition, biochemistry, physiology, and public health
• Prior work experience related to nutritional and/or chronic disease epidemiology
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and oral communication, and problem solving skills
• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups
• Doctoral degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, quantitative social science, or related field preferred.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a team, and able to manage their time across multiple projects.
