The L&OD Consultant works under the supervision of the Assistant Director, Learning and Organization Development, to assess, plan, design, develop, conduct, evaluate and report all or part of the education and training needs of Duke University and Health System. Coordinates, designs and facilitates structured learning experiences to meet the professional needs of staff and faculty throughout the system.

Work Performed

  • Regularly communicates with leadership and relevant sub-groups to coordinate training needs analysis, course development, course delivery and course evaluation projects.
  • Coordinate, design, develop, facilitate, and evaluate all aspects of structured learning experiences including management of event logistics. Develop, and/or obtain, training procedure manuals and guides, and course materials such as handouts and visual materials for professional development courses.
  • Maintain and monitor course development, delivery, and administration work flow process as it relates to course offerings. Alert supervisor of any variances in plan.
  • Train trainers such as line managers and outside consultants who may facilitate a program for Duke clients to ensure quality and consistency of learning experiences. This position will also be responsible for Office Staff Development Program, First Time Supervisor Program, specific open enrollment professional development courses, and rotational programs such as: New Hire Orientation, Managing at Duke and Managing at Duke Plus.
  • Evaluate knowledge gained in a way that supports improvements, helps to enable outstanding performance and helps to continuously improve service to clients. Develop metrics that assess training effectiveness. Communicate with supervisor as needed to provide training status reports.
  • Stay abreast of learning and OD trends and next-generation processes, practices, tools, and templates for appropriate application at Duke. Conducts continuing research and seeks best practices of leadership development and management consulting at Duke.
  • Provide consulting services and expertise to departments as assigned by the supervisor. Develop strategies for implementation plans for delivery of programs and services that meet common enterprise needs and operating units.
  • Conduct focus groups, interviews and survey assessments to determine performance gaps and requirements; assess work environment's readiness to support specific training or development needed to address issues.
  • Complete projects independently or collaboratively as assigned; participate and contribute as a team member of cross-functional interventions; present deliverables to senior team member; deliver project tasks such as needs assessment and short/long term evaluations.
  • Coach employees and managers on subjects such as career, leadership, and performance development plans.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Psychology or related field required. Master's preferred.

Experience: 4 to 7 years of experience in increasingly responsible positions of Human Resources, training, and/or management consulting. Experience designing and delivering course content using eLearning, classroom facilitation, and blended learning. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
