Department Summary: The BSU Aviation Training Center is located at the New Bedford Regional Airport, New Bedford, MA. BSU Aviation offers rigorous academics and excellent in-flight training in every kind of airspace.

Position Summary: Chief Instructor (This is a Full-time, 12-month position which falls within the APA Union) Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm. (Subject to change) (Saturday and Sunday as days off) General Statement of Duties: The Chief Instructor is a vital member of BSU Aviation Flight Operations as the central point of contact for development and delivery of flight and ground training content. This staff member provides critical leadership and supervision duties and works cooperatively with a variety of internal and external agents to provide the highest level of safe, efficient service. Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Operations. Supervision Exercised: Ground and Flight Instructor staff, including faculty when performing duties as a ground instructor for applicable CFR Part 141 courses.

Essential Duties: Core Duties: -Ensure the safe and effective delivery of the highest quality ground and flight training. Work cooperatively with Assistant Director/Safety Program Manager to ensure highest level of safety during all ground and flight training, including course content and delivery. -Focus resources and decisions on the overarching priority of student success. -Supervise FAA Part 141 and 61 ground and flight training course development and execution. -Ensure compliance with applicable university, local, state and federal regulatory requirements. -Serve as primary liaison with; FAA Principal Operations Inspector, FAA Maintenance Inspector , Designated Pilot Examiner(s) -Work cooperatively with Director and Aviation Science Department Chair to recruit, select and train appropriate faculty; ensure proper student enrollment, progress, and completion of ground and flight training courses; provide ground school instruction as needed. Work cooperatively with Staff Assistant for Standardization and Evaluation to monitor and adjust training delivery to achieve and maintain FAA Practical Test pass rate at or above 90% for all CFR Part 141 courses; conduct on-site flight and ground evaluations with students and staff. Work cooperatively with Staff Assistant/Records and Compliance to ensure highest quality of student and staff records management; monitor and adjust training delivery to achieve and maintain FAA Knowledge Exam pass rate at or above 90% for all CFR Part 141 courses; initiate and maintain CFR Part 141 Examining Authority for Private Pilot and Instrument Rating courses. -Work cooperatively with Flight Operations staff to recruit, hire and train Ground and Flight Instructor staff. -Provide effective supervision and evaluation of Ground and Flight Instructor staff. -Work cooperatively with Director, Aviation Business Manager and Staff Assistants to provide professional development opportunities for Ground and Flight Instructor staff. -Supervise development and execution of BSU Aviation in-house ground and flight training publications. -Promote and participate in industry safety and education efforts (e.g. FAASTeam membership) -Advise the Director of Operations regarding; personnel and equipment resource utilization and requirements; student performance in ground and flight training courses; staff and student training initiatives and outcomes; airport and operational area issues. -Conduct appropriate annual professional development activity. -Perform other duties as necessary to achieve program goals and objectives.

Required Qualifications: -Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution. -Meet or exceed FAA 14 CFR Part 141.35 Chief Instructor Qualifications -Demonstrate strong administrative, communication, and marketing skills with effective understanding of aviation student needs. -Demonstrated experience with safety program compliance. -Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential information. -Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high level of accuracy and keen attention to detail. -Excellent teamwork and organizational skills, coaching/leadership/supervision skills, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: -Demonstrated experience with CFR Part 141 flight and ground training operations. - Demonstrated experience with fast-paced flight and ground operations. -Experience with data development, assessment, and application. - Advanced computer skills, including comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, various Windows utilities and web-based applications. -Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
