University Advancement professionals coordinate the university's primary outreach activities to the community and region. This includes memberships in key organizations, attendance at key community events, representation on important community initiatives and the creation of partnerships supporting the university's mission.



Nature of Work

The Director of Alumni Relations and the Annual Fund reports to the Vice Chancellor for University Advancement and serves as a member of the University Advancement team. The Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the Alumni and Friends Association and the annual fund.

The Director supervises the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and the Alumni and Donor Engagement Specialist.

Principal functions of the position are:

Alumni Relations



Management
  • Manages campus-wide alumni relations program, oversees associated budgets and coordinates all aspects of alumni special events
  • Collaborates with deans, colleges and departments to develop affinity-based communication and programming
  • Works closely with development staff on alumni outreach efforts and strategies
  • Manages the Alumni Executive Board and selection of scholarship recipients
  • Oversees external business relationships, including Collegiate Insurance Resources, Liberty Mutual, TalentMarks, and VineUp
  • Secures and manages sponsorships for annual magazine and special events
  • Coordinates alumni chapter and volunteer programs
  • Manages alumni career services and mentoring program
  • Manages database updates, volunteers, membership card
  • Works with other offices on campus to highlight alumni outcomes
  • Coordinates visibility and presence at student events
  • Oversees the Class Gift, Legacy Cord, Traditions Challenge and STAT programs
  • Work collaboratively with Development Office and Alumni Office personnel to graduate supporters through the development pipeline from annual giving to leadership annual giving, to major gifts.


Printed and Electronic Communication
  • Manages publication of the annual Alumni Association magazine, including working with a designer, creating all content, coordinating all photography, generating a mailing list and managing the mailing process
  • Manages publication of alumni information brochure, alumni directory and traditions publication, including writing copy, working with designers, and managing printing and production
  • Manages production of alumni marketing videos, including outreach, annual fund, and profiles
  • Creates and distributes monthly alumni e-newsletter
  • Designs and distributes e-newsletters for colleges and departments upon request
  • Coordinates e-communication with seniors and recent graduates


Website and Social Media
  • Manages website structure, design, HTML, content and photography
  • Manages Alumni Association presence on social media
  • Tracks analytics on website and oversees analytics for other communication platforms


Annual Fund
  • Manages the UCCS annual fund
  • Collaborates with colleagues from the CU System Advancement and the CU Foundation to develop strategies that will increase alumni participation in the annual fund
  • Works with staff from Ruffalo Noel Levitz to develop calling scripts, strategies, and best practices to engage UCCS alumni via the UCCS call center
  • Coordinates with the CU System Advancement to develop copy for printed materials and email communication
  • Develops integrated marketing strategies that reach alumni via a variety of platforms and through a variety of methods to develop a culture of giving


Leadership
  • This position supervises two employees on a daily basis, and numerous employees at Alumni and Donor events.
    • Supervision includes preparing annual evaluations, setting performance goals, and holding employees to set expectations
  • This position oversees and manages the respective budget and spending for the Alumni Relations Department

Salary Range: $70,000-80,000


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in business, communication, public relations/administration or related field

• Three years supervisory experience.

• Six years administrative experience in a university/college setting or related equivalent experience; to include departmental, fund raising, financial and event management such as:
o Experience in strategic planning
o Experience in managing and motivating a large staff
o Coordinating events in order to support the University/Organization to cultivate donors
o Developed strategies to identify and prioritize prospects by working to strategically achieve philanthropic or organizational goals.
o Program building and identifying best practices

Preferred Requirements

• Master's Degree in a related field such as business, communication, marketing, or administration.
