The Associate Director of Athletic Communications is responsible for:

  • Assist Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications with day-to-day office leadership to ensure all communications responsibilities are being performed and completed to the highest of standards
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the media and ensure the timely dissemination of accurate information, including news releases, event results and statistics for multiple programs, including men’s basketball
  • Collaborate with the external operations team to conceptualize, create and distribute strategic and cutting-edge content
  • Be responsible for timely reporting of records and statistics to appropriate service bureaus and to
  • Manage strategic informational, marketing and promotional efforts with coaches, athletic administrators, external operations team members, and campus constituents
  • Provide digital media support, including social media, video and digital asset management
  • Work with the appropriate coaches and professional support staff to conceptualize, design, produce and distribute print, electronic and video material such as record books, game programs, and email updates
  • Write and edit news releases, game notes and feature releases
  • Maintain and update history and record books
  • Manage team rosters, statistics, records and photo archives
  • Identify, coordinate and manage athletic communications game-day staffing needs and responsibilities for assigned sports
  • Be responsible for meeting deadlines and coordinating multiple tasks effectively and efficiently
  • Be responsible for understanding and adhering to all Citadel, Southern Conference and NCAA rules and regulations
  • Be self-motived, have knowledge and strong interest in college athletics, game production, social media and digital marketing
  • Be expected to personify The Citadel’s core values of Honor, Duty and Respect
  • Be required to attend games and events and work extended hours, including occasional nights, weekends and holidays; Travel in order to perform assigned job functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2 years of experience in a collegiate athletics or professional sports communications office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign and Photoshop
  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge and experience in management of athletic web pages
  • Knowledge and experience with NCAA statistical data and reporting systems, including automated StatCrew software
  • Social media experience, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • Preferred qualifications:

  • NCAA Division I experience
  • Experience as contact for men’s basketball
