The Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks applicants for a 100%, non-tenured Visiting Instructor or Lecturer or Senior Instructor or Senior Lecturer in Human Nutrition. This is a temporary, 9-month position for the 2017-2018 academic year, with a possible 2-month summer appointment in 2018, based on student enrollment and need.
The FSHN Department is a global leader at transforming lives through distinguished scholarship in food, nutrition, and hospitality sciences. We implement research, education, and outreach programs designed to promote a safe, nutritious, accessible, and affordable food supply that enhances human health. Our Human Nutrition program is an integral part of our commitment to train the next generation of experts and leaders in the food, nutrition, and hospitality sectors.
The successful candidate will teach FSHN 120, Contemporary Nutrition, to 750 undergraduate students each semester as one of the general education courses offered on campus. The incumbent will supervise and mentor graduate student teaching assistants assigned to FSHN 120, participate in informal undergraduate student academic and career advising and recruiting, and will engage in departmental functions. The individual will report to the Department Head of FSHN.
- Master's degree in human nutrition or dietetics.
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
- For Senior Instructor also evidence of substantial contributions to undergraduate teaching and curriculum development.
- PhD degree in human nutrition or dietetics.
- Sustained excellence in teaching.
- For Senior Lecturer also evidence of substantial contributions to undergraduate teaching and curriculum development.
Required for all ranks
- Passion for undergraduate education and student development.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to utilize technology in instruction.
- Three years of successful teaching experience at accredited four-year institution of higher education.
- Registered dietitian credential.
Salary Statement: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
