Marymount Graduate Students (accepted or enrolled) who are taking at least 6 graduate credits each semester are invited to apply for a part-time (1/3) Graduate Assistantship position in the Department of Health and Human Performance.

The position begins in fall semester and continues through the end of spring semester.

A 1/3 Graduate Assistant works 7 hours per week during each semester providing administrative support duties as described below.

A 1/3 GA receives a waiver of tuition for 3 graduate credits each semester of the assistantship.

Minimum Qualifications

• Accepted and or enrolled in a Marymount graduate degree program.
• Remains enrolled for at least 6 credits each semester of the assistantship.
• Maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA while enrolled in a graduate program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Accepted students enrolled full-time are given preference over part-time students.
• Academic record and community / professional service will be considered in decision-making.
• Candidates who will be available for at least 2 semesters, pending a strong performance review.
In addition, strong/preferred candidates will have:
• Expertise in Canvas, SPSS and/or SAS , and excellent library research skills.
• Solid oral and written communication skills are essential.
• Considerable flexibility of schedule.
• Experience with health and fitness assessment including body composition, blood pressure, and cardiorespiratory endurance testing.
• A nationally recognized personal training certification.
• Experience with social media (Twitter/Facebook).

Responsibility / Duty

(1) Maintain departmental web and Canvas sites. This involves monitoring each site to update time-sensitive information; adding new links suggested by faculty; exploring other health and fitness related web sites and recommending links or new content; updating access lists, maintaining the Departmental Facebook page, etc.
(2) Maintain internship and job opportunities database. The GA works with the departmental internship coordinator to maintain a database of internship and job opportunities. The GA organizes and updates these on a regular basis. (3) Produce departmental newsletters. A departmental newsletter is periodically produced.. The GA obtains content from faculty and the Chair.
(4) Assist with institutional assessment activities. At the end of the spring semester, the GA assists with the production, mailing, and analysis of student surveys for institutional assessment.
(5) Support faculty research. This includes assisting with the development of grant proposals, doing library research, and obtaining journal articles for the faculty.
(6) Assist in courses particularly with a laboratory component. The GA may be asked to assist with HPR courses having a laboratory component or hands-on activities as well as assist with grading of exams/quizzes. A GA may be asked to supervise a class (with pre-set work/slides) if a professor has to be absent. Considerable flexibility in the GA's schedule is required in order to facilitate this process.
(7) Attend Department meetings. The GA is encouraged to attend and participate in monthly department meetings, wellness student association gatherings and wellness taskforce meetings, and other professional meetings as scheduled.
(8) Maintain departmental social media sites (Twitter, Facebook) and departmental bulletin boards.
(9) Assist faculty at open days and other promotional/recruitment events on campus at both the graduate and undergraduate level.
(10) Maintain the Kinesiology lab, inventory and supplies, orderly and sanitary arrangement of equipment and be available to offer review sessions for students for lab-based skill practice on a flexible basis.
