Job description

Duties: Independently designs and performs advanced research in support of assigned projects. Supervises the daily operational and scientific activities of research facilities and maintains an orderly, clean and safe laboratory.
Ensures lab is in conformance with applicable safety and radiation safety standards. The position will involve discovering chemical therapeutics through screening campaigns, analyzing therapeutics in vitro using
biophysical methods for binding of compounds to protein targets to inhibit viral replication. Quantitative viral infection assays and toxicity assays will be performed. The position will also involve oversight of lab personnel as well as mentoring of graduate and post-doctoral students. Manuscript and grant preparation will also be expected.

Qualifications: The position requires a Ph.D. degree in molecular biology, biochemistry or biophysics or a related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of post-doctoral and laboratory experience. Experience in drug discovery including screening
chemical libraries, rational drug design, differential scanning calorimetry, surface plasmon resonance, protein expression and purification techniques with special emphasis on baculovirus expression system is preferred.
Experience in virological techniques is desirable, especially with poxviruses and herpesviruses. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential. A strong publication record is preferred.
