The University of Alabama at Birmingham Information Technology department (UAB IT) is currently seeking applicants for an Executive Director of Network Infrastructure to direct the effort and capital expenses of the Network and Telecommunications Infrastructure groups. Reporting to the AVP/Chief Technology Officer, this position will serve as the Chief Architect of the network and telephone solutions and be accountable for the availability of network and telephone services and to monitor and take proactive action on network and telephone capacity.

Duties & Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manages and directs staff and vendors implementing and supporting the network and telephone solutions at UAB.
  • Architects and documents network architecture for network additions and changes to support new business and technical requirements and new versions of equipment and software. Oversees the physical fiber and copper network plants at UAB.
  • Participates in leader, team and customer/client meetings to understand organizational priorities and principles and share information and direction for the network.
  • Manages the capital, contracts and personnel budgets for projects and operations relating to the network engineering, operations and telephone departments.
  • Creates content and delivers communication and awareness of network and telephone capabilities and changes at UAB.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a closely related field and ten (10) years of related experience. A Master's degree is preferred. Experience with network engineering, network operations, telephone and physical wiring plants is also preferred. A CCNA, PMP, CISM, CISSP or Palo Alto certification is desirable but not required.
