Under the direction of the Dean of the Academic Division of Nursing, the Assistant Dean for Laboratory Experiences is responsible for the management of the Nursing Laboratories; establishes and maintains current and long term planning for clinical laboratory environments and activities; in collaboration with faculty establishes goals and objectives for laboratory use and development; researches current nursing practice trends for nursing faculty and implements those in the nursing laboratory environment; researches trends for nursing faculty; maintains lab rules and standards of practice.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE:  A Bachelor’s’ degree in Nursing; Master’s preferred from a fully accredited institution of higher learning and current licensure as a nurse.   RN License preferred.


At least 2 years’ experience in clinical nursing lab setting; 2-5 years progressive supervisory experience and exceptional organizational and management skills required; computer literacy and technology skills including use of simulation devices; experience with mentoring and tutoring students.


Understanding of and commitment to Associate Degree and Practical Nursing Education;

Ability to commit to flexible work arrangements;

Current CPR certification;

Ability to meet clinical site CORI requirements pursuant to licensing and CHSB regulations;

Health requirements: Two MMR's or positive titers indicating immunity, Completed Hepatitis B series and/or positive titer indicating immunity, Varicella antibody titers, TD within 10 years, Annual negative PPD or Chest X-ray within 7 years for positive responders, Annual flu shot;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Responsible for oversight, organization, training, assessment and placement of faculty and instructors, lab and clinical assignments as delegated by the Dean of Nursing.

TRAVEL:  This position requires working at both the Quincy and Plymouth Campuses.


  • Manages and oversees daily operations of clinical laboratories;
  • Manages and maintains nursing equipment and supplies;
  • Oversees the care of simulation manikins;
  • Supervises in the Nursing Skills labs including open practice labs;
  • Establishes a plan for purchasing and replacing equipment and supplies;
  • Tracks, orders and manages inventory, including repair and replacement of broken equipment;
  • Establishes relationships with agencies to strengthen partnerships;
  • Manages clinical laboratory expenditures and projects budgetary needs;
  • Interfaces with clinical simulation vendors and oversees warranties and repairs;
  • Pilots new equipment and projects;
  • Monitors lab usage and evaluates lab effectiveness;
  • Assists with development, implementation and evaluation of clinical simulation scenarios;
  • Orients new faculty and students to the lab;
  • Trains and assesses faculty on use of simulation equipment;
  • Assists the Dean with the evaluation of full and part time faculty re: clinical lab settings;
  • Demonstrates personal and professional growth in supporting clinical laboratory learning;
  • Attends Divisional meetings and serves on committees;
  • Uses established criteria to assist faculty in student skills testing;
  • In collaboration with faculty, creates simulation experiences that provide a realistic learning experience where critical thinking is a focus;
  • Produces reports on student simulation experiences;
  • Provides and oversees laboratory tutoring and other remediation activities;
  • Coordinates schedules and assignments of work study students in the lab setting;
  • Establishes and updates laboratory policies and procedures;
  • Ensures the safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials;
  • Oversees the collection and disposal of waste materials;
  • Provides advice and orientation to instructors regarding laboratory procedures, location and use of materials and the operation of equipment;
  • Recommends and/or performs general cleaning in the nursing laboratories;
  • Recommends and/or performs maintenance or repairs of equipment in the nursing laboratories;
  • Keeps current with safety regulations;
  • Establishes, updates and maintains safety policies within the Nursing Labs;
  • Checks and maintains safety equipment;
  • Provides training and enforcement of safety procedures to individuals, including faculty, students    and staff using the laboratories;
  • Participates in and contributes to the learning needs of students in the nursing programs;
  • Supervises and tutors students during unscheduled lab sessions;
  • Provides student progress feedback to instructors;
  • Participate in mandatory training/coursework. Including but not limited to:        
    • Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
    • Non-Discrimination & Sexual Harassment
    • Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
    • FERPA
    • Municipal Ethics Law
  • Assumes other duties as assigned
