Boston University has been developing and delivering award-winning, fully online degree programs for more than 14 years. Our instructional designers work in partnership with faculty to design and build courses and manage program-wide portfolios, building innovative online degree programs of the highest quality. Designers work in the Office of Distance Education within cross-functional teams which also include Faculty and Student Support Administrators (FSSAs), and media producers. Collaboration is a key component and contributes greatly to a highly refined finished product. As part of a growing digital teaching and learning division, instructional designers have the opportunity to be involved directly in educating students all around the world in distinctly engaging and interactive ways. All BU online courses are expected to meet the highest of quality and academic standards. Instructional designers are expected to oversee project schedules and manage all aspects of the design process with knowledgeable and experienced approaches to technology use in instruction, including assessment, andragogy, deployment methodologies, and integration strategies.
Master's Degree in Instructional Design or Education-related discipline, strong communication skills, an understanding of online andragogy, excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize, experience and demonstrated competence with Adobe products, Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, and Blackboard LMS systems, and at least two years of experience in online course development.
