Job Description: Arrupe College, a new two-year undergraduate college of Loyola University Chicago, invites applications for a non-tenure track, one-year appointment as an Instructor of Philosophy beginning August 15, 2017. Over the course of 12 months, the selected individual will teach freshman and sophomore level courses in Philosophy at Arrupe College on the Water Tower Campus of Loyola University Chicago. The individual selected for this position will demonstrate commitment to serving a diverse student body, including underserved, minority, and first-generation college students. Candidates with experience teaching in community colleges are encouraged to apply. The teaching load for this position is 8 undergraduate courses per year, typically 3 courses in fall, 3 in spring and 2 in our summer term.

Qualifications: A doctorate in the discipline is preferred, but a Master's degree is required. The successful candidate will exhibit experience in active-learning and enthusiasm for and commitment to undergraduate teaching as well as a willingness to engage students beyond formal classroom experiences. The area of specialization is open, but successful candidates will be able to teach the foundational Philosophy core courses: Philosophy and Persons (ACPHI 130) and Ethics (ACPHI 281). Previous successful experience teaching these courses is preferred.
