The Landers Laboratory in the Department of Chemistry has two openings for the position of Research Technician 2. The incumbent will be involved in a variety of investigations, support testing and analysis, and maintain commercial and prototype laboratory instruments for the development of a rapid genetic DNA analysis instrument. These role include, but are not limited to, maintaining, operating, and analyzing results from commercial equipment such as an ABI 3130XL and NanoDrop, performing conventional and prototype microchip DNA extraction and PCR, preparing polymer solutions, and performing and supporting microfluidic DNA separations and laser-induced fluorescence detection system testing. The incumbent will perform a variety of typical laboratory activities, such as preparation of buffers and instrument calibration. The incumbent will analyze results from experiments and develop reports for discussion with their supervisor and develop plans for the next experiments with their supervisor. This role is within a dynamic project developing the next generation of rapid DNA analysis systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of molecular biology laboratory practices. Must be highly organized and have good writing skills in order to keep laboratory notebooks and help write laboratory safety protocol. Ability to interact well with diverse faculty and students. Ability to read and understand laboratory protocols and extract relevant information. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals on scientific instrumentation, intermediate computer skills.
