Iowa Wesleyan University is seeking a full time, Director of Career Development and Internships.  This is a full-time, 12-month position that includes the full college benefit package.  The Director of Career Development and Internships is responsible for career and graduate school planning and preparation and administration of the internship program.


  • Providing programs to assist graduates in their job search, including gathering and disseminating job notices, counseling and maintaining a credential service
  • Implementing Professional Development Series workshops, including annual Etiquette Dinner
  • Assisting students in the development of a career plan, using testing, counseling and programming
  • Supporting interest and pursuit of graduate program attendance by providing programs and workshops for interested students
  • Conducting assessment, both recurring and new, relative to the Career Development Center
  • Developing and implementing programs and services designed to assist students in career decision-making and career management
  • Maintaining job posting board including networking and researching regarding employment opportunities
  • Procuring necessary supplies and equipment with fiscal management
  • Adjusting programming to meet evolving needs of students and new academic initiatives
  • Maintaining a comprehensive, up-to-date resource library for use by students, faculty, staff and alumni
  • Developing strong and positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and other external constituencies
  • Working closely with Director of Service-Learning to develop and implement programs and services preparing IW students for off-campus placements
  • Counseling students about internship options
  • Processing required paperwork for internship registration
  • Developing a “library” of potential placements and maintaining positive relationships with employers
  • Establishing long-term exclusive IW internship opportunities at local community partners
  • Discovering suitable placements for each student in consultation with advisors and divisional liaisons
  • Monitoring individual student internship experiences
  • Providing evaluation and recommendation of successful completion to division liaison
  • Regularly convening divisional and program liaisons to promote communication
  • Conducting assessment to ensure continuous program improvement and effectiveness and institutional needs
  • Developing strong and positive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and other external constituencies
  • Planning and overseeing production of printed materials and implementing internal and external marketing strategies
  • Maintaining placement files


  • Master’s Degree in human resources, career services or business.
  • Exceptional Organization and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Public speaking experience with the ability to engage a wide range of constituents
