Job Description Summary

Works with Campus President to develop strategies for community engagement.

Job Responsibilities

Creates and implements community relations plan for the campus

Manages external and internal events that include community contact or are high profile public events

Manages internal and external communications to keep Cuyahoga Community College in the forefront of key community contacts in government, education, business within the campus service area

Prepares written correspondence including thank you and congratulatory notes and newsletters to key community contacts on behalf of campus president

Manages relationships through events and meetings designed to provide regular updates and face-to-face contact between key community contacts and relevant campus personnel

Manages contacts on local boards for the campus and the campus president

Works closely with the Office of Marketing and Communications and the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation to coordinate activities and keep all parties informed

Performs environmental scanning of community newspapers for pertinent information regarding important trends or changes within the community

Assists with budget tracking related to areas of responsibility

Willingness to travel within Northeast Ohio

Willingness to work a flexible schedule

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree
o Significant related experience may substitute for education

Minimum of three years of experience with community relationships in the Northeast Ohio area

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a division (or equivalent business area)

Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations


Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to develop and implement creative strategic community development relations plan

Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to research community, educational and political activities and present summary reports for analysis

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment

Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes

Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Possess comprehensive knowledge of non-profit civic community relations theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Demonstrated basic proficiency with Ad Astra (or equivalent program)

Demonstrated basic proficiency with Banner (or equivalent program)

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Preferred Qualifications


Master's Degree in Communication, Public Relations, or related field and/or a minimum of five years of experience with community relationships in the Northeast Ohio area

Experience with a CRM specific software (e.g. constant contact)

Work Schedule

Standard college hours Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (hours will vary depending on business unit's needs)
