About The Unit: The Gary Becker Milton Friedman Institute for Research in Economics works to inspire, refine, advance, and disseminate new knowledge on important economic and policy questions. It provides core support for inquiry in the rigorous tradition of Chicago economics. Through its research conferences, visiting fellows program, research initiatives, and support for young scholars, the Institute fosters conversations and cross-disciplinary collaborations that refine research and spark new ideas.

Unit Job Summary: The Becker Friedman Institute is seeking an experienced economics writer to draft documents, speeches, feature articles, op eds and blog posts to help communicate BFI research to a wide audience. - Works with the Senior Director of Policy, Communications and External Affairs on knowledge translation of University of Chicago economic research into accessible policy briefs and other collateral materials to be used in BFI outreach. - Helps draft formal BFI documents to be used on website and in other outreach to funders, stakeholders and policymakers, defining the mission and objectives of BFI. - For BFI leadership and scholars, draft speeches and testimony around their respective areas of expertise and research for opportunities in which they represent BFI. - Coordinate with the Senior Director of Policy, Communications and External Affairs in drafting feature articles, op eds and blog posts to promote the work of BFI leadership and scholars. - Other work, as defined by BFI leadership.

Unit Education: Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or a relevant field required. Advanced degree in specialized field preferred.

Unit Experience: A minimum of six to eight years of relevant experience required. Experience working in economic policy setting required. Ability to translate complex economic research into accessible, accurate content required.
