Post-Doctoral Fellow

This position reports directly to the Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Dermatology under the supervision of Dr. Neil Box in the area of melanoma research. We are seeking motivated and independent candidates to work on human genetics and melanoma research. The postdoctoral fellow will be supported by the T32 post-doctoral fellowship program in immunodermatology. The Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has one institutional NIAMS-funded MD or PhD post-doctoral fellowships in cutaneous biology and skin diseases research with a start-date that is negotiable. The goal of this program is to prepare fellows for independent careers in research and academic medicine. Fellows will be exposed to a range of institutional resources including the UCD Postdoctoral Association, the UCD Cancer Center, the UCD Skin Diseases Research Center and CCTSI-funded training opportunities.

The applicants will submit written proposals to be evaluated by the Program Study Section and selected by the Recruitment Committee. Trainees will be required to apply for additional extramural funding (e.g., individual K-award) during their first year of support.

Dr. Box's research area

Our lab is studying the interactions between genes and ultraviolet (UV) radiation that influence risk and clinical presentation of melanoma using epidemiologic approaches in human subjects. For this, we are investigating gene-UV interactions that impact melanocytic nevus development in subjects who are participating in our longitudinal study of nevus development in children. We are recruiting melanoma patients and controls to study how these interactions may influence clinical presentation and how measuring sun damage may be integrated into melanoma risk models. We also aim to uncover the molecular mechanisms that influence the earliest stages of melanoma development.

Specific Position Duties with Percentages of Time

100% of time commitment for one renewable year contingent on performance.

This research position will be supported by a T32 NIAMS-funded training grant in immunodermatology and therefore a proposal and an annual progress report are required to be prepared and submitted to the NIH by the trainee.
