The University of Miami is home to over 15,400 undergraduate and graduate students from all 50 states and from 140 nations around the world. The Department of Housing and Residential Life is home to an extensive and diverse residential program featuring six residential communities that range in size from 400 – 900 students with over 4,400 students living on-campus. The Safety and Security program is charged with staffing all exterior access points to residential colleges between the hours of 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM, 365 days a year. This includes 11 posts that are staffed by up to 17 Security Assistants and supervised by 3 Security Supervisors each night. We strive to fulfill our vision – Student Housing for Student Success. The Manager of Residential Life Safety and Security works in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Residential Life Safety and Security to lead the Safety and Security program. The focus of the Manager of Residential Life Safety and Security responsibilities pertains to safety-related educational programming and the supervision of the entry-level staff and ensuring efficient and effective job performance; this is achieved through the successful completion of all duties under the purview of this position.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Manages and supervises the Department of Housing and Residential Life Safety and Security program comprised of approximately (80) student staff members: (65) Security Assistants, (2) Security Coordinators, and (13) Security Supervisors. Works with and indirectly supervises (5) Office Assistants; and (1) professional staff Office Supervisor.
• Works collaboratively with other HRL colleagues including Residential Life Night Managers, Area Directors, and Budget staff.
• Responsible for staff development, including recognition, evaluations, and discipline of student staff.
• Ensures quality job performance standards are met by reviewing nightly documentation completed by student Security Assistant staff, reviewing documentation on Security Assistant work performance submitted by Security Supervisor staff, etc.
• Coordinates and implements marketing campaigns for student Security Assistant selection each fall and spring semester and student Office Assistant selection as needed.
• Assists in coordinating fall and spring semester recruitment and selection of student Security Coordinator, Security Supervisor, Security Assistant, and Office Assistant staff for the Department of Housing and Residential Life Safety and Security program and also assists with summer intersession and winter intersession recruitment and selection.
• Participates in the recruitment processes for all levels of professional staff within Housing and Residential Life.
• Assists in coordinating and facilitates fall and spring semester comprehensive training sessions for student Security staff; coordinates and facilitates Office Assistant training as needed.
• Assists in coordinating and facilitates fall and spring semester safety and security training and education sessions for Area Director, Office Supervisor, Resident Assistant, and Desk Assistant staff; this also includes different operational logistics for each summer and winter intersession.
• Charged with implementing the commitment to excellence student staff developmental model and with ensuring the teaching and retention of the four core values germane to the HRL Safety and Security program including: mastery of policy, professional conduct, customer satisfaction, and emergency management.
• Charged with overseeing HRL Safety & Security programming and outreach initiatives.
• Advises the Programming Board for Security and the Security Advisory Board which consist of Safety and Security student staff members aimed at identifying issues within the program, coming up with tangible solutions, and implementing feasible plans.
• Prepares and revises professional and student staff policies and procedures, manuals, and safety and security publications as needed and ensures updates are made to all manuals annually.
• Responsible for possessing in-depth knowledge of University and Departmental systems. Trains staff on the usage of relevant systems.
• Serves as an on-call Housing and Residential Life professional staff member for management of evening, overnight, and weekend emergencies and crisis response related to safety and security.
• Available for significant night and weekend work pertinent to the position (hiring interviews, staff selections, team builder events, staff meetings, etc.).
• Hears student conduct cases and assesses sanctions based on severity of University and/or Housing and Residential Life policies and procedures violations as assigned by the Dean of Students Office.
• Assists with administrative room searches as requested by Area Director-On-Duty staff. • Acts as a Departmental liaison with other University departments such as Facilities and Access Control concerning Housing and Residential Life safety and security.
• Speaks to student and parent groups regarding Housing and Residential Life safety and security issues during fall and spring semester orientation.
• Assists in coordinating and facilitates the 24-hour staffing of Housing and Residential Life front desk and buildings and related security operations during periods when the University is closed and/or threatened by natural or manmade disasters; this includes but is not limited to: hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, etc.; assists in off-campus hurricane shelter operations and coordinates and facilitates emergency planning and management operations for Housing and Residential Life with the Office of Emergency Management.
• Participates on University-wide committees as requested and completes assessment projects as needed. Completes other duties and special projects as assigned by the Assistant Director of Residence Life Safety and Security.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree is required. Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, or related field or working towards completion of such degree is preferred.
• Minimum of one year work experience is required; work experience in an academic environment at the post-secondary level is preferred.
• Experience with student staff supervision, emergency management, and crisis response is preferred.
• Experience with student conduct, educational programming, working with a diverse student population, conflict management and resolution, and simultaneously managing responsibilities in varied capacities is preferred.
• Experience and familiarity with working overnight hours, access control systems (CSGold, CBORD, Onity), and surveillance software (OnSSI Ocularis Client) is beneficial to the position and preferred, but can be taught on the job and is not required. Apply online. Position #: P100002716.
