Job Description:

Manage the University of Florida (UF) Federal Relations Office in Washington, District of Columbia (DC).  Work with senior UF administrators in developing and implementing a federal relations strategy to advance UF’s interests in Washington, DC.  Build and maintain relationships with key legislative branch and executive branch officials, their staff members, and higher education advocates.


Essential Functions:

Monitor federal legislation and regulations of interest to UF.  Work with faculty members and staff members to determine their effects and communicate UF’s positions (when appropriate).

Provide information about the UF and serve as a resource to Washington-based policymakers, including the State of Florida’s congressional delegation and agency representatives.

Liaise on UF’s behalf with government relations organizations and coalitions (e.g., the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)), and contribute to higher education and research advocacy efforts.

Communicate with senior UF administrators and key faculty members to ensure they are informed about federal matters of interest.

Identify opportunities for UF faculty members and staff members to participate in congressional hearings, executive branch advisory groups and task forces, and national education forums.

Develop briefings on campus and in Washington, DC to inform legislative branch and executive branch officials about UF

Coordinate communications between UF faculty and staff members and members of Congress.

Supervise Assistant Director Public/Governmental Relations (Working Title: Assistant Director for Federal Relations.

Lead/manage the UF Federal Relations Office.  Originate office lease agreements; purchase needed equipment, furnishings, and supplies; and arrange for support services (e.g., printing, catering, and events management).

Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and eight years of relevant experience.
