SAFETY TRAINING COORD

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs to targeted audiences with an emphasis on hands-on learning activities
  • Perform job hazard analysis for multiple occupational settings in order to tailor safety training programs to the needs of each worker population
  • Deliver orientation and update safety training to researchers assigned to biosafety level-2 (BSL2) and biosafety level-3 (BSL3) environments
  • Evaluate and improve safety training programs
  • Serve as a training instructor for the Duke Infectious Disease Response Training (DIDRT) program, the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Duke and the DHVI
  • Perform additional duties as requested by direct supervisor, DHVI Safety Manager


Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree, preferably in a science discipline, or related to safety. Master's degree a plus.

Experience:
3 years related training experience preferred. Familiarity with medical research laboratories, including high-containment environments a plus.

A master's degree in education, communication or safety-related field may be substituted for 2 years' experience.

Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Skills:
Ability to effectively communicate with persons of various technical and educational backgrounds, must possess a dynamic personality with excellent verbal skills, and must be detail-oriented and organized.
Must possess excellent computer skills including proficiency with MS Office suite (particularly Access and PowerPoint). Experience with interactive e-Learning development programs (e.g., Storyline) a plus.

Additional Requirements:
Must be eligible for and willing to:
  • Complete and maintain Tier 1 Select Agent registration
  • Successfully complete BSL3 training for work in the high-containment areas of the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory at Duke
  • Comply with vaccination and health surveillance requirements
  • Periodic out-of-town business travel required for DIDRT
