The Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2017 to teach and coordinate foundational design and to research in design pedagogy.

The College of Architecture and Planning at CU Denver is the only college in Colorado offering comprehensive programs in the design and planning of the built environment, from undergraduate through professional master's degrees to the interdisciplinary doctorate. Nearly 700 students are enrolled in accredited architecture, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning, urban design, and historic preservation programs. The Department of Architecture offers a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Architecture and a Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) professional degree. The BS in Architecture is a young and growing program with over 300 students and the M.Arch. program admits approximately 90 students per year. The concentration of architecture firms, private foundations, state and federal agencies along Colorado's Front Range affords a wealth of research and learning opportunities for faculty and students alike. Tenure-Track Assistant Professors in the Department of Architecture in the College of Architecture and Planning engage in 40% teaching, 40% research or creative activity, and 20% service. The standard academic-year teaching load is two courses per semester.
The Department of Architecture seeks highly motivated candidates with a record of design teaching and either scholarship or innovative creative activity. The position will teach required design studios, required courses and seminars, and electives in a specific area of expertise. The initial course assignments will be in the B.S. in Architecture program.
Tenure-track faculty members are expected to show promise in an area of research expertise and are to produce creative research and design at the highest level, and will be required to obtain exemplary external peer evaluations of the projects in the form of design awards or other citations, or disseminate reflections on the scholarship of application through traditional scholarly venues. The candidate will demonstrate the potential for success in this position with a portfolio of several successful projects, and the potential for scholarship. The faculty members of the Department of Architecture each contribute scholarly and professional leadership to some dimension of architectural education. Our individual strengths complement those of our colleagues, and we regularly collaborate to both advance the field and educate our students. - Terminal degree in architecture (or international equivalent)
- Evidence of foundational design studio teaching
- Evidence of research and/or creative work
- Ph.D. in architecture or a related field
- Professional experience and licensure in architecture
