Histologist - Professional Temporary

The University of Colorado Denver, Department of Pathology is offering an hourly temporary position in a high complexity histology laboratory for a Histotechnologist. Daily duties will include, but are not limited to, all aspects of routine histology.

The Histology laboratory is physically located within the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, CO.

Hourly wage is commensurate with skills and experience.

Professional Field:

Histotechnologist (Certified ASCP/HT/ HTL)

Supervision Received:

Reports to the Histology Lab Supervisor. The employee will demonstrate communication of all problems and concerns to the Lead Histotechnologist and/or pertinent superiors. If there are no superiors present at the time, the employee shall handle the situation and immediately inform the supervisor upon arrival of the corrective actions taken.

Examples of Work Performed:

This position will require routine imbedding, cutting and staining of tissue submitted by clients within the CU system (AMC, UC Denver, UC Boulder, etc). This position will also interact with pathologists and other lab personnel.



A BS degree and formal Histotechnology training in an accredited program or a BS degree and two years internal on the job experience. Valid certificate by the ASCP.

Work experience appropriate to the assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the degree.

Basic computer skills in data entry, MS word and Excel. Demonstrated ability to organize workload, file correctly by alphabetical and numerical order, attention to detail, and to follow precisely written procedural instructions. Basic medical terminology is necessary. Ability to listen and follow precise protocols is required. Must be familiar with basic human anatomy and physiology.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

This position requires excellent interpersonal skills where customer service and responsibility to patient care is the priority. The applicant must be a self-starter that demonstrates the ability to work individually with minimal supervision as well as part of a team of Histotechnologists.

• Must be team-oriented, flexible, reliable.
