A postdoctoral research position is available in the lab of Jeffrey G. Jacot, Ph.D. for the study of Pediatric Cardiac Tissue Engineering. The candidate will develop a vascularized cardiac patch for repair of congenital heart defects and test this patch in in vitro and in vivo experiments. This is a one-year position, renewable annually for up to 5 years. The salary structure is both attractive and nationally competitive. Specific Position Duties:

Our laboratory aims to engineer reparative heart tissue using stem cells found in amniotic fluid grown on novel multilayered biomaterials. These tissues are designed to fix heart defects in infants, eliminating the need for heart transplants or multiple and complex surgeries. The candidate would be involved in the manufacture and testing of scaffold materials, culture and differentiation of amniotic fluid and induced pluripotent stem cells, analysis of cell function, gene expression and protein expression, surgical manipulation and physiological and histological evaluation in a rat model.

The candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own research interests, and will also assist in writing progress reports, manuscripts and grant proposals. The candidate must be highly motivated and willing to learn new techniques and approaches, and able to work independently and in an interdisciplinary team of biological scientists, engineers and clinicians.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field.

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

  • Experience working with human stem cell cultures
  • Experience with rodent models of heart disease.

Salary and Benefits:
