NATURE OF WORK

The Assistant Professor will be part of the Division of Geriatric Medicine. This is a full-time, benefited and tenure track position. As with most faculty in the Division of Geriatric Medicine, this will be an "at-will" position, meaning the employee can be terminated at any time without notice, and severance pay may not be provided. The work site(s) may include the UCH Seniors Clinic, UCH satellite clinics, UCD Division of Geriatric Medicine's administrative offices, various community nursing homes, UCH inpatient hospital sites, the Denver VA Medical Center, and the IMAGE group exercise research laboratory. This position will be covered under the School of Medicine primary care provider agreement and the incumbent will be eligible for all bonuses and incentives that apply under that agreement, as well as any bonuses that might apply through the Division Geriatric Medicine bonus agreement.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The incumbent will work under the supervision or at the direction of the Division Head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine.

SUPERVISION PROVIDED
The incumbent may provide supervision and direction to UCH clinic staff (nurses, medical assistants, clerical and administrative staff); division staff (UPI employees, UCD classified staff); medical students, residents, and fellows; and other para-professional trainees.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary clinical responsibilities include seeing patients in our Seniors Clinic (5+ half-days/week), providing consultative care on the inpatient Geriatrics consult service (includes UCH, VA, SVH), and potentially helping with our nursing home practice, which may include direction and supervision of clinic/hospital staff, students, residents and fellows. Attending responsibilities may also include: 1) up to 4 weeks/year on the inpatient Internal Medicine service and 2) rotating one half-day/month attending in the Geriatrics Fellows clinic. The incumbent shares the responsibilities of night, weekend, and vacation coverage with other providers of the group practice and will participate in decisions regarding the practice operation. Educational responsibilities include: 1) teaching in a primary care setting (students, residents, and fellows); 2) participating in an active clinical residency program; as well as 3) curriculum development for medical students, fellows and professional CME programs sponsored by the Division;. The clinician may collaborate with other faculty in research projects (manuscript preparation, grant-writing process, hypothesis generation, etc.), but is not expected to be a clinician-researcher.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The applicant will be joining a collegial geriatrics division that includes 10 physicians, a nurse practitioner and several PhDs. This is a full-time position with varying/flexible work hours, including some evening and/or weekend coverage. The work site(s) may include (but may not be limited to) the UCD Seniors Clinic, UCD Division of Geriatric Medicine's administrative offices, various community nursing homes, UCH inpatient hospital sites, and the Denver VA Medical Center and Community Living Center.

SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION

The annual salary will be commensurate with education, experience, and available grant funding. As a provider under the present primary care provider contract, the incumbent will be eligible for bonuses and incentive (in addition to his/her salary) as described in that document.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical license in the State of Colorado at the time they begin the position; 2) be board certified in internal medicine; 3) have completed a fellowship in geriatric medicine; and 4) be board certified (or eligible) in geriatric medicine.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in adult education with excellent presentation and communication skills are highly valued. Strong clinical and teaching skills and an evidence-based approach to clinical care are required. Skills and knowledge of various MS Office applications is also highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The incumbent must be able to lift at least 30 pounds, and able to sit or stand for more than 1 hour at a time. Incumbent must have a medical license for the state of Colorado and board certification in geriatric medicine, ACLS certified, and is knowledgeable in the ethical conduct of human subject research, HIPAA compliance, as well as COMIRB regulations.
