The Office of the Vice Provost for Research (VPR) has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Manager, Research Support. The Senior Manager, Research Support will report to the Director, Business Operations and work closely with the Associate Provost for Research in supporting the managing of the university’s efforts in research, scholarship and creative activities, focusing on the areas of university-wide research operations. The incumbent will support the Associate Provost’s efforts to assist schools and other units in enhancing their research programs, providing the necessary administrative support needed for developing research infrastructure and support services, and by informing the AP of funding opportunities. Will act as a liaison with schools and colleges to assist the Associate Provost with implementing and optimizing policies and processes regarding the creation, redefinition or closure of cores/shared resources and research centers/institutes.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manages the day-to-day operations of projects and initiatives in accordance with objectives and deadlines.
• Supports development of initiatives to assist faculty with obtaining funds to support research, scholarship, and creative activities: diversifying and increasing research funding.
• Compiles and publicizes information on funding opportunities, and other miscellaneous announcements, from external agencies to the research community.
• Assists in facilitating collaboration within UM and with outside organizations.
• Organizes workshops/training for faculty development in research.
• Assists AP and Graduate Dean to implement/track education in the responsible conduct of research, and to integrate research with innovative graduate programs.
• Manages and maintains data/documents for development of proposals and for oversight of institutes/centers and Cores/shared resources.
• Assists in the development and tracking of relevant research metrics.
• Manages internal awards and University-wide external limited submission awards for the University, including management of online application and review portal.
• Produces university-wide reports on outcome metrics for limited submission nominees.
• Facilitates AP in the development and maintenance of research-related policies; aiding the AP in working with university constituencies including the Research Deans, Research Council and Faculty Senate to obtain policy approval.
• Assists in working with Medical Communications and UM Communications to manage research related communication strategies.
• Responsible for administration of Provost’s Research Awards (PRAs); announcements, application process, and review committees, and organize and maintain efficient post award follow up.
• Creates and maintain research and proposal development website.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent English (verbal and written) communication skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal professionally with all types of information, including that of a confidential nature.
• Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail/accuracy.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office products (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) with excellent data management skills.
• Ability to create and manage website content.

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Five (5) years of relevant work experience in an academic research institution.
• Knowledge of university research administration processes and procedures.
