The University of Wisconsin System, one of the premier systems of public higher education in the country, seeks an innovative, talented, and dynamic leader to serve as the System Administration’s Associate Vice President for Policy Analysis and Research (AVP). This is an outstanding opportunity for a highly experienced and accomplished leader to influence and shape institutional policies and practices using the latest tools for policy analysis and research. The AVP will work collaboratively with the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs on system wide reporting and analytics, transforming the way the UW System—and its 15 degree granting institutions—gathers, analyzes, and uses information to advance the UW System’s overarching mission. As the head of the Office of Policy Analysis and Research (OPAR), the AVP will collaborate with system colleagues and campus leaders alike to foster equity, diversity, and opportunity across the system.

The UW System employs more than 40,000 faculty and staff statewide, and its institutions’ total enrollment is just under 180,000 students, conferring approximately 36,000 degrees each year. Located in Madison, WI, home of its flagship university, the UW System Administration offices oversee 13 four-year universities, 13 freshman-sophomore institutional campuses that comprise the UW Colleges, and a statewide UW-Extension. Two of the universities (UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee) are research doctoral degree-granting institutions and 11 are master’s degree-granting comprehensive institutions. Together, these institutions are a tremendous academic, cultural, and economic resource for Wisconsin, the nation, and the world.

The AVP will join the System Administration at a time of enormous opportunity and potential impact. She/he will lead in gathering information to ensure high levels of student success, and to rethink and transform the way data is conceived, interpreted, communicated, and delivered. As a forward thinking and exceptional communicator, the AVP will provide impactful analyses that will translate into effective policy and action, to further the goals of the system’s strategic plan and promote UW’s impact in the State of Wisconsin and the world.

 The AVP will be charged with:

  • Reviewing priorities for institutional research and policy analysis and crafting a plan that supports the overarching goals and strategic direction of the UW System
  • Providing leadership and management for the Office of Policy Analysis and Research in the System Administration
  • Serving as a resource for UW campus IR offices to enable them to do more to support data driven decision making and advance predictive modeling
  • Acting as a thought leader, policy analyst, and partner to the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs and other leaders in the UW System office
  • Spearheading the collection and use of data to analyze and document the UW System’s progress and performance
  • Communicating effectively with a broad range of constituents
