    DESCRIPTION


    The University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, invites applications for the position of Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology. This is an outstanding opportunity for an accomplished physician leader to oversee and further develop the clinical, educational, and research programs of the department in a dynamic academic medical setting.

    The Department of Radiation Oncology is dedicated to providing the highest quality cancer care, developing new therapies for cancer patients through research, and educating the next generation of outstanding physicians and researchers. It has a vibrant scientific and clinical community with outstanding collaborative opportunities. UCI-Radiation Oncology is an integral part of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center of UC Irvine, the only NCI-designated cancer center in Orange County. This academic department consists of a total of 23 faculty, including 10 full time faculty members in the Divisions of Clinical Affairs, Cancer Biology, and Medical Physics. UCI Radiation Oncology offers a 4-year training program accredited by the ACGME for 4-5 medical residents in Radiation Oncology, a 2-year AAPM accredited training program for Medical Physicists, and a 1-year Dosimetry training program accredited by JRCERT for 1 Dosimetrist student. The faculty is actively involved in clinical outpatient care as well as regular resident and medical student teaching. The faculty work collaboratively as multidisciplinary team members within their respective areas of practice both in their clinical and research endeavors. As an essential component of the Cancer Center, UCI-Radiation Oncology participates in and provides leadership within the National Clinical Trials Network, including NRG Oncology and ECOG-ACRIN, and also holds many extramural research grants funded by the NIH, NASA, DTRA, and others. There is a commitment to expanding the footprint of clinical service and to growing research capabilities.

    The ideal candidate will be a strong, collaborative leader, and will bring a track record of leading growth, and national recognition in education, clinical service, and/or research, as well as experience in strategic planning and implementation, and financial and resource management of an academic department of Radiation Oncology. Applicants must be a physician board-certified in Radiation Oncology, and eligible for California State medical licensure. Extramurally funded research is highly desirable as is the willingness to collaborate and support departmental and intramural research activities across the School of Medicine and other campus research centers. Candidates are expected to have credentials appropriate for the rank of Professor at the University of California, Irvine.
