The Department of Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Anesthesiologist. The chief responsibility of the department is to assure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations, painful invasive procedures, and childbirth. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals have top nationally-recognized physicians delivering the best possible anesthetic care as well as a full range of perioperative care. The anesthesiologist provides specialized care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Job Responsibilities: The attending anesthesiologist administers care alone or supervises physicians-in-training (residents), certified registered nurse anesthetists, or physician extenders. Usually, an attending will supervise no more than two anesthetizing locations. When working alone, he/she examines the patient before and after anesthesia, writes pre and post anesthesia orders, confirms that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manages the anesthetic period, and follows patient as long as is appropriate in the post anesthesia period.

In addition to the above general duties, the anesthesiologist will be required to develop and teach the theoretical and practical application of Pediatric anesthesia.

The position is full-time and will be assigned to work in any of the UCD affiliated hospitals to include University of Colorado Hospital and affiliates.

Must have a strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesia as well as experience in teaching Anesthesia.

The attending anesthesiologist may be required to perform these services in the operating room, in the labor and delivery area, in radiology, and in some special procedure areas. Except in specific emergency situations, the administration of anesthesia is limited to areas where anesthesia can be given safely. One or more attendings will be available at all times to provide these services.

Since attending anesthesiologists in this department are also faculty members of the School of Medicine, they are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School. This may include, but is not limited to preparing and delivering lectures, serving as a preceptor, and providing one-on-one instruction. Attending anesthesiologists as faculty members are also expected to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the specialty by way of clinical or laboratory research.

All attending anesthesiologists must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado. All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
