Associate Professor/ Professor
The Division of Health Care Policy & Research at the Anschutz Medical Campus of the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for an Associate Professor/Professor tenure track faculty (MD, PhD, or equivalent) position. The mission of the Division of Health Care Policy and Research (HCPR) is to improve health care services, organization, & policy through research & education. Faculty members investigate how clinical practice is influenced by health care organization, reimbursement, & quality improvement & measurement approaches. An interdisciplinary team of researchers leads innovative projects that focus on: Medicare & Medicaid policies & regulations; clinical & system interventions aimed at improving long-term & post-acute care services (e.g., nursing home, home health, & transitional care); promotion of meaningful use of health information technology; increasing patient safety in all settings; improving hospice & palliative care; & reducing health care disparities. In addition to grant funded projects, HCPR currently holds federal master contracts with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), & the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality that represent unique opportunities for funding acquisition & actively pursues contract funding from federal & state government agencies.
The incumbent will play a major leadership role in the expansion of currently funded programs, funding acquisition in new promising areas, and help develop collaborative relationships across the Anschutz medical campus, as well as with external partners, and provide mentorship to junior faculty and trainees. Candidates should be experienced and interested in mentoring junior faculty and research trainees at the MD, PhD, and MPH levels. A strong record of obtaining external research funding and publication record is highly desired.
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus hosts a recently constructed $3 billion state-of-the-art academic medical complex, including clinical and research facilities that house the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, Dental Medicine, Graduate Studies, College of Nursing, University of Colorado Hospital and The Children's Hospital, as well as the scheduled relocation of the Veterans Administration Medical Center to a new $1.3 billion facility in 2015. The Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) of UC Denver is the premier biomedical research institution in the Rocky Mountain Region, with over $450 million in extramural grant funding including an NIH Clinical Translational Science Award. AMC research faculty distinctions include Nobel, National Medal of Science, National Academy of Sciences and Howard Hughes Investigators. The Division of Health Care Policy and Research is uniquely positioned within the Department of Medicine and is housed in new space on the Anschutz Medical Campus in the state of the art UPI2 building that has been LEED certified by The U.S. Green Building Council.
Examples of work performed include:
Planning and management of research programs, organizing and leading external funding acquisition activities, executing sound technical and financial management of funded research proposals and federal contracts, mentoring junior faculty and trainees, providing leadership within the Division of HCPR, and forging collaborative relationships across the Anschutz Medical campus.
The incumbent will have a proven track record in funding acquisition through grants and/or contracts, extensive experience conceptualizing and managing research and analysis projects, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and successfully mentoring trainees to achieve career goals.
