The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine has a full-time faculty position available at the rank of Instructor for a Pediatric General Surgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). Under the direction of the full-time faculty or designee, this position provides inpatient and outpatient medical care services at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO).
The candidate will be expected to provide independent clinical services for pediatric general surgery, trauma, transplant, colorectal and burn patients at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO). These duties will include primarily inpatient responsibilities such as rounding, writing orders/progress notes, consults, discharge, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management and minor procedures. Duties will also include coverage of outpatient surgical clinics and minor procedures in the clinic. Close collaboration with pediatric general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, residents/fellows and hospital staff will be necessary. Professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and primary care providers is essential. The candidate will provide care to patients in the pediatric intensive care unit, newborn intensive care unit, acute care areas, and in the outpatient clinics. The work schedule may include up to 13hr shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Master's degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
- First assist or surgical assist certification and experience required.
- Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).
Conditions of Employment:
This position will be working at the Children's Hospital Colorado. The Children's Hospital Colorado requires that all prospective employees pass a drug test and provide current immunizations, including a Tuberculosis test.
Of those candidates with a Nurse Practitioner degree, preference will be given to those with acute care certification.
Experience in general surgery, trauma, critical care, and pediatrics preferred.
