The Princeton University Office of Corporate Engagement and Foundation Relations (CEFR), located within the office of the Dean for Research, seeks an experienced communicator to become the Outreach and Marketing Manager. This position requires a highly effective manager who can be responsible for developing, implementing, and leading successful outreach and marketing initiatives which increase the visibility of Princeton research, promote the opportunities for companies and foundations to collaborate with Princeton, and assist the University in procuring research funding from corporate and foundation partners.
This versatile professional must be adept at working with and understanding the perspectives of academics, nonprofit professionals and industry leaders; must be able to communicate research in the sciences and the humanities in a compelling way to educated laypeople; and must be comfortable expressing the University's research and funding initiatives aimed at foundations and industry in written and verbal communications.
This position works collaboratively with the CEFR and DFR teams, communications professionals across the University, industry- and external-facing units at the University, and research units for whom CEFR helps develop funding.
This position reports directly to the Director of CEFR.
Develop marketing and external outreach initiatives
Create and develop a comprehensive and strategic marketing and outreach program including events that increases visibility and support for corporate engagement activities, and improves program results for CEFR
Work in collaboration with DFR colleagues to communicate to a broad range of external constituencies, including potential corporate and foundation funders
Identify target audiences, and integrate, oversee, and implement marketing, press, PR, social and online communications
Develop and foster media and external relationships
Facilitate and seek to shape media coverage of Princeton research and of Princeton's initiative to establish relationships with industry and foundations
Facilitate external relationships with communication professionals at business organizations to extend the University's message about its research and the opportunity for collaborations with industry and foundations
Create and disseminate information to external constituents/funders
Ideate, write, develop, and implement strategic communications via promotional materials, advertising, electronic communications, and social media
Identify and secure speaking opportunities for Princeton faculty and staff who can deliver the messages about research, research funding and opportunities for collaborations with industry; create related presentation materials
Ideate, develop, write, maintain and oversee the production of all collateral in support of CEFR initiatives and activities including website content, articles, internal outreach to faculty and administration, external marketing initiatives
Find, curate and distribute relevant content from other University and research sources
Act as CEFR's liaison to University Communications Department and communications professionals throughout the University
Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree in marketing, business, public policy, liberal arts or communications related field.
- 5 - 7+ years of experience encompassing professional journalism, or marketing and communications, or grant writing.
- Experience in academic, business and private and/or foundation sectors. Project management experience.

- Candidate must demonstrate highly developed levels of integrity, accuracy, diplomacy, intellect, diligence, discretion and communication and decision-making skills.
- Candidate must be able to work independently, on multiple simultaneous initiatives, in a results- and deadline-driven workplace.
- Candidate must have a deep understanding and appreciation for Princeton's unique attributes, for the academic environment and culture, and for the corporate and non-profit sectors.
- Excellent writing and editing, collaboration, communication and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with Drupal, MS Office, web tools, and other common communications tools and social media platforms.
