Position Information
Under the general direction of the CHASS Student Academic Affairs office, the Academic Advisor Supervisor provides direct supervision to academic advisors in the various departments of the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences (CHASS) . The Academic Advisor Supervisor also provides academic advising to undergraduates in various departments, collaborates on the development of advising-related programming, and engages in data collection and analysis.

Minimum Requirements
Skill in setting priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities
Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems.
Skills requisite to advise/counsel diverse personalities using sound and mature judgment.
Ability in persuasion and leadership.
Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning.
Ability to effectively, professionally, and tactfully interact and communicate, both orally and in writing, with students, faculty, staff and visitors. Skill in independently composing letters, memos, reports, and other written communication materials using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, composition, text editing, and proofreading skills.
Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a service environment that is subject to frequent interruptions.
Project management skills.
Demonstrated computer proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) or other equivalent software, the internet, e-mail messaging, and web-based software applications. Ability to learn new programs. Demonstrated experience using an online student information system.
Skills in social perceptiveness.
Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Knowledge of the applicable federal and state regulations governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position, including the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Skill in accurate record keeping with strict attention to detail. Skill in organizing tasks, documents and materials with efficiency and accuracy.
Skills in monitoring/assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of an advising team. Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction.


Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the applicable University of California policies governing areas related to the responsibilities of the position. Ability to extract, compile, analyze, and present pertinent data effectively. Knowledge of web site design and maintenance. Demonstrated experience with Banner Student Information System Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Access skills or similar database applications
