Job Description

The Success Advocate serves as the front line point of contact in the Student Success Center. The Success Advocate is responsible for assisting students with the college enrollment process and encouraging them to become more self-reliant by orienting them to college policies, procedures, resources, and technology. They help facilitate student learning to ensure students are successful in navigating the complexities of the enrollment process from admission through graduation. The Success Advocate builds relationships with students, engages them to actively engage in the community of JCCC and connects them with resources as needed to promote goal completion.

Job Objectives
  1. SERVE AS COHORT MANAGER FOR STUDENT SUCCESS - Provide expertise in the enrollment process to a defined group of both new and continuing students. Research and resolve barriers to student goal achievement. Appropriately refer students to other departments on campus as needed to facilitate student connections with resources. Provide follow up services when appropriate to ensure student engagement and retention.


  1. FACILITATE STUDENT LEARNING BY ORIENTING STUDENTS TO THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS, COLLEGE POLICIES, TECHNOLOGICAL TOOLS, AND CAMPUS RESOURCES - Act as the student's accountability partner by providing instruction, guidance and assistance to students regarding the enrollment process, college policies, and tools needed to navigate their college path. Introduce students to available campus resources to facilitate student learning and empower students to successfully engage in their college experience. Help cohort of students identify and develop an action plan to achieve their academic goals, then track the progress of each student until their goals are completed. Assist students in identifying and overcoming obstacles and barriers.


  1. PROVIDE AND RECEIVE PAPERWORK RELATING TO THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS - Provide forms and information to students upon request. Receive forms returned by students in accordance with college policies.


The responsibilities described represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to do all assigned responsibilities.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field required.
  • Attention to detail, excellent interpersonal communication skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of student information required.
  • Must be able to communicate institutional policies and procedures clearly and accurately.


Required Experience
  • One year of experience working with student records or other confidential materials.
  • General computer, data entry, and web knowledge required.
  • Data entry experience and ability to type accurately.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with Community College/Higher Education Student Services area.
  • Experience working with college students of diverse populations.
  • Experience working with Banner student information system.
  • Windows and large data base experience.
  • Multi-lingual applicants with conversational ability encouraged.
