Job Summary/Basic Function:
Duties: The duties of the position will be advising, scheduling courses and registering 300 Engineering students each semester; reviewing credits for transferring students; conducting end of semester review of student grades; reviewing course schedules to reduce schedule conflicts with other departments as well as engineering; communicating with prospective students and parents to prepare for acceptance into Lamar's engineering program.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Engineering advising or related experience is desirable. Superior oral/written communication skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications, high level organizational and interpersonal skills a must. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals as necessary for the implementation of this program. Official transcripts are required at the time of employment. This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215.
Other Specifications: Attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and dependability a must.
Preferred Qualifications: Engineering advising experience at a four-year university, excellent listening skills, and desire to deliver high quality customer service to students. Ability to work with sensitive information and to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Ability to work as part of a team in a very fast-paced environment. Familiarity with student records system and extensive computer skills.
